Together Hostel Bangkok Review: Staying at a Gay Hostel in Silom

If you spend even five minutes researching gay life in Bangkok, you’ll eventually hear about Together Hostel (often stylized as Togayther Hostel).

The moment I learned there was a gay hostel in Bangkok located right in Silom — aka ground zero for gay nightlife in the city — I knew I had to check it out.

Like a moth to a flame.

Or, if we’re being honest… like P. Diddy to baby oil.

So I booked a stay and spent a few nights there to see what the experience was actually like.

Spoiler alert:
This is not a place I’d recommend to everyone.

But depending on what you're looking for, it might be exactly what you want.

This is my honest review of Together Hostel Bangkok, including the location, facilities, atmosphere, and what it’s really like staying in a gay hostel in the heart of Bangkok’s gay district.

Location: In the Heart of Gay Bangkok

One thing Together Hostel absolutely nails is its location.

The hostel sits inside a small alley in Silom, the main hub for gay Bangkok nightlife.

From here, you’re within walking distance of:

  • most major gay bars in Silom

  • several gay saunas

  • numerous gay massage spas

  • street food stalls

  • a nearby 7-Eleven (essential for emergency protein shakes)

If you’re visiting Bangkok specifically to explore gay nightlife, it’s hard to find a more convenient place to stay.

Inside the Gay Hostel: Rooms and Facilities

Together Hostel occupies a six-floor building.

The ground floor acts as the lobby and social area, while the upper floors contain the rooms.

Each level has slightly different room types.

During my stay, I booked the most basic option, located on the fifth floor.

This floor consists of shared capsule-style cubicle beds.

Each cubicle includes:

  • a single mattress

  • power outlets

  • a light switch

  • privacy curtain

  • small locker operated by your key card

The cubicles are comfortable enough for one person, though definitely compact.
Locker Storage: Bring a Small Suitcase

One thing to keep in mind: the lockers are quite small.

They’ll comfortably fit:

  • a carry-on suitcase

  • small backpack

  • maybe a 10-15kg bag

But if you show up with a big 20-25kg suitcase, like I did, you’re going to struggle.

Mine didn’t fit at all, so I ended up storing it inside my cubicle.

Not ideal.

The Red and Green Switch System

Each cubicle includes a small red-green switch.

The idea is simple:

Green = open to interaction
Red = do not disturb

In theory, this lets guests signal whether they’re open to socializing (or more).

In practice…

Well.

We’ll get to that later.

Bathrooms and Showers

The bathroom on the fifth floor was pretty basic.

Honestly, it looked a bit rustic compared to the rest of the building.

I quickly discovered that the bathrooms on the fourth floor were much nicer, so I usually just walked downstairs to use those instead.

Another tip:

Hot water works best if you turn the shower pressure down slightly.

Otherwise you may end up with a very cold surprise.

Social Spaces at the Hostel

There are two main social areas.

The Lobby

The lobby is where most guests hang out.

People sit around on their phones, relax, and chat.

It’s also where you’ll meet the hostel’s dog, Lala, who is honestly one of the highlights of the place.

The Rooftop Area

On the sixth floor, there’s a small bar and outdoor area where guests sometimes gather.

It’s a good place to socialize if you want to meet other travelers staying at the hostel.

Who Stays at This Gay Hostel?

One thing that surprised me during my stay was the demographics of the guests.

When I think of hostels, I usually imagine international backpackers — the typical young Western travelers bouncing around Southeast Asia.

But during my stay, the majority of guests were Chinese or Taiwanese men, spanning a wide range of ages and body types.

Mandarin was easily the most commonly spoken language in the hostel.

This wasn’t a problem at all — just something I genuinely didn’t expect.

My Biggest Issue: Privacy

Now we get to the main reason why my experience here was… complicated.

The biggest issue I had with Together Hostel was the lack of privacy.

Despite the red-green switch system, some guests did not respect it at all.

Several times during my stay, people would:

  • pull open the curtains of my cubicle

  • look inside while I was sleeping

  • ignore the “do not disturb” signal

One night, I even woke up to someone grabbing my leg while I was asleep.

Needless to say, that was not exactly the relaxing hostel experience I was hoping for.

To be clear: this wasn’t everyone.

There were also friendly guests who invited me to hang out or socialize.

But the repeated interruptions made it difficult to fully relax.

Is This a Hookup Hostel?

Let’s be honest.

This is a gay hostel in Bangkok located in the middle of Silom.

So yes — hookups definitely happen.

For some travelers, that’s part of the appeal.

For others, it might be a dealbreaker.

If you enjoy:

  • exhibitionist environments

  • spontaneous encounters

  • a very open social atmosphere

you might actually enjoy the vibe here.

But if you prefer clear boundaries and privacy, this might not be the best fit.

Price and Value

One thing Together Hostel does well is affordability.

It’s especially useful if you:

  • need a last-minute place in Silom

  • are visiting during big events like White Party Bangkok

  • want to stay right in the middle of gay Bangkok nightlife

In those situations, this hostel can be a very practical option.

Would I Stay at Together Hostel Again?

Personally, I probably wouldn’t stay in the shared capsule rooms again.

However, I might consider:

  • the private rooms on the second floor

  • the Together Hostel Black branch

The Black branch is also connected to a gay sauna, which could be an interesting experience if that’s something you’re curious about.

Final Verdict: Together Hostel Bangkok

Together Hostel has some strong advantages:

✔ Prime location in Silom
✔ Affordable prices
✔ Friendly staff
✔ Social atmosphere

But there are also downsides:

✘ Limited privacy in shared rooms
✘ Guests sometimes ignore boundaries
✘ Small lockers for luggage

For some travelers, this gay hostel in Bangkok could be a fun, social place to stay.

For others, it may feel a little too chaotic.

It really depends on what kind of travel experience you're looking for.
